Dr. Norman Scott Howell is a distinguished healthcare professional with a diverse background in Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics, and Osteopathic Medicine. Graduating from both Kansas State University and the University of Health Sciences, Dr. Howell's academic foundation is characterized by a relentless pursuit of knowledge.
His journey continued with a comprehensive internship at Doctor's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where he gained exposure to multiple specialties. Dr. Howell then honed his expertise in Internal Medicine during a residency at the same institution. His commitment to excellence led him to advanced rotations in Critical Care Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, a testament to his dedication to delivering top-tier patient care.
A seasoned leader in the medical field, Dr. Howell has held pivotal roles such as Chief Medical Resident, Chief of Staff at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Assistant Coroner for 6 years and Director of the Intensive Care Unit. Additionally, he has demonstrated exceptional proficiency as Department Head of Respiratory Medicine and as Chairman of both the Peer Review and Credentials Committees.
Dr. Howell's commitment to education is evident through the development of educational rounds for ICU nursing staff and his tenure as an assistant professor at A.T. Still University. He further enriched the academic landscape by serving as Assistant Dean and subsequently as Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education at the same institution.
With a robust foundation in healthcare policy, Dr. Howell received the prestigious Heritage Foundation scholarship, and his thought leadership is exemplified by a national paper on CPOE and medical errors in the United States.
An esteemed member of the American College of Phlebology, Dr. Howell was appointed to the Professional Education Committee, a testament to his influence in the field. His expertise has been sought globally, having been invited to lecture at the World Congress of the American College of Phlebology for the past five years. Notably, he was chosen to speak on Botox and aesthetic facial fillers at the most recent World Congress.
Dr. Howell's impact extends beyond borders, as he orchestrated licensure for physicians in Belize, enabling mission work for Mayan Indians, and provided instruction at the International Medical School in Belize. Moreover, he joined Advanced Dermatology, the nation's largest Dermatology organization, where he spearheaded the development of the Varicose Vein Division.
With a strong focus on resident development, Dr. Howell has elevated clinical and social core competencies, ensuring a well-rounded medical education. His commitment to advancing medical practice is further exemplified by his incorporation of aesthetic medicine into his practice, culminating in the facilitation of numerous hands-on courses on injection techniques.
Most recently, Dr. Howell received a congressional request to serve on Obama's Physician Council for Health Care Reform, underscoring his status as a recognized authority in the healthcare arena. Since establishing his Phlebology practice in 2014, Dr. Howell continues to leave an indelible mark on the medical community, blending innovation, education, and compassionate patient care in all his endeavors.
